Rivers are Life

It's time to protect them

Rivers belong to everyone—all life depends on water, and over 90% of people in the world live within 6.2 miles of rivers, lakes or oceans. It’s up to us to do everything in our power to restore and sustain the health of our rivers as the key to a habitable planet.

Lewis Pugh, UN Patron of the Oceans, is undertaking a record-breaking, epic 315-mile swim down America’s iconic Hudson River to shine light on the importance of healthy rivers and ask world governments to prioritize healthy rivers as part of the drive to protect 30% of our land and oceans by 2030.

And you can join Lewis in your own way, from wherever you are.

How? It's simple!

  1. Back Lewis's letter: by adding your voice, you're asking world leaders to prioritize healthy rivers: part of the drive to protect 30% of our land and oceans by 2030
  2. Reduce & recycle: Avoid single-use plastic and recycle right. And don't stop there. Ask local retailers to change the way they present their goods and encourage them to ditch single-use plastic from their packaging.
  3. Join a river group: Team up with others to boost your impact. When we take action together, we learn from and encourage one another.

Together we can make our rivers drinkable, fishable and swimmable again.

Back Lewis’s call for world governments to prioritize healthy rivers as part of the drive to protect 30% of our land and oceans by 2030.
