The world’s biggest football-climate takeover
Imagine a world where the passion we have for sports fuels our fight against climate change. Picture vibrant stadiums where fans passionately support climate action, just like they do for their favorite teams. Every year, Green Football Weekend makes this vision a reality, bringing together the UK’s professional football clubs, leagues, rival sport broadcasters and the country’s footballing community to tackle climate change head-on.
In 2024, invited fans to take their first steps on climate action by trying a tasty veggie option. The campaign reached up to 30 Million fans via their passion – with nearly 500 sports and mainstream media hits; a free online Veggie Cookbook, featuring veggie recipes from more than 70 players and famous football fans – including Rahim Sterling, Amy Turner, James Ward-Prowse, Jessie Flemming, Chef Tom Kerridge and many more; talent up and down the country showing their support for the campaign; and schools in every corner running lessons curated to educate children and families on impactful climate action we can all take in our lives.
What’s more, by garnering the unequivocal support of fans, the campaign empowered more than 70 of 115 participating clubs to announce ambitious sustainability commitments, run themed activations to engage their communities to take green actions to score “goals” in the Green Football Cup tournament, and put up a veggie sack feast in their stadiums with the collaboration of the country’s top three football caterers.
